![]() Question is, how many skills work on knocking someone down, outside of a Block action? Mighty Blow is worded to require a KD as part of a Block/Blitz. I may have misinterpreted it, the wording is "if this player has any applicable skill, the coach of the opposing team may use them when making an Armour roll (and possible Injury roll) against the Knocked Down player", and 'this player' is used several times in the text to refer to the player with Animal Savagery. It says your opponent gets to choose whether or not you get to use any skills on the model that gets bit, how many skills does that actually affect? All I can see is Safe Pair of Hands, maybe it's just for future proofing. I used to not get Pro first on my vamps, I think it will become my first skill on any vamp, more often than not. Mechanically, I would argue it's almost strictly and significantly worse - you get to make an Armour roll now, so it's not an automatic injury, but having to commit to the action before rolling is some orders of magnitude worse, and biting on a 1-3 when you want to pass is horrendous. Right, you just do nothing if you don't start next to another teammate now.įlavour-wise, it's very similar. They could've at least gotten cheaper rerolls to help offset this. I'm not giving up hope completely since for all I know this could be an overreaction and playtesting will shut me up, but I'm not terribly thrilled with the changes at the moment. You are going to want to punch with your Vampires as much as possible since doing anything else with them is so risky, which is a lot less interesting than the cool stuff you can do with a bunch of hypnogazing to open up weird angles and make crazy plays. If Animal Savagery were only a 2+ all the time then this would be a lot better for the team (duh) but with such a huge increase in the number of players you are going to have on the ground this looks like it pretty much demolishes the Vampire BS playstyle I know and love. You are going from 1/6 to hit a thrall to 3/6 to hit a thrall (when not blitzing/blocking), ~3x the knockdowns while only preventing ~58% of them from leading to an injury roll is not a good trade. ![]() Yes, you get an armor roll, but thralls are AV 7 so they are breaking armor ~42% of the time. You are going to have a LOT more self-attrition than before due to the increased volume of knockdowns. The real issue IMO is the huge chance of Animal Savagery coming into play. ![]() Your cage is likely going to disintegrate halfway up the field. I'm not sure how great their running game will be with Vamp ball carriers if they have to knock down their cage half the time just to move forward, yes they might not break armor but the thralls are going to struggle to keep up if they are constantly on the ground. There's a bunch of stuff that Vampires would've been happy to get in the new edition, yet more counterplay options isn't really one of them. It's worth noting that they can no longer slake their thirst on a knocked down thrall, which forces you to stand them up before the Vamp activates and potentially messes up your action economy as well as prevents you from biting a stunned thrall.Īlso, forcing the knockdown before their action makes it easier for your opponent to control your activations since pushing a thrall away from a Vampire forces you to get the thrall back into position before the Vamp can act safely. I'm far from a grizzled veteran Vampire coach, so take my thoughts with a clove of garlic, but not as optimistic after a first reading.
